We pass many laws in the state Legislature during session; however, some enacted laws have delayed effective dates. Please see below for the new laws that take effect this month.

2/11/2025 | Ch. 578 of 2024 | Allows retired employees of the New York state teachers’ retirement system, who return to active service and suspend their pension benefit, to elect to combine their service credit earned prior to retirement with the service credit earned after their restoration to active service, provided they have earned at least two years of service credit since such restoration. |
2/17/2025 | Ch. 601 of 2024 | Enacts the Restaurant Reservation Anti-Piracy Act, prohibiting third-party restaurant reservation services from arranging unauthorized restaurant reservations with food service establishments. |
2/19/2025 | Ch. 603 of 2024 | Requires online dating platforms to notify individual users when they have communicated with someone who has been banned from the platform for fraud. |
2/19/2025 | Ch. 615 of 2024 | Requires the secretary of state to offer online code enforcement training programs for code enforcement personnel, with flexible options for when such training programs may be completed. |
2/19/2025 | Ch. 618 of 2024 | Requires electric vehicle charging stations and electric vehicle capable parking spaces to have handicap accessible spaces that are large enough to accommodate wheelchair accessible electric vehicles, including but not limited to vans and minivans. |

2/20/2025 | Ch. 466 of 2024 | Allows a practitioner in a hospital without a full-time pharmacy to dispense a 3 day supply of buprenorphine and methadone to an emergency room patient for use off premises, in accordance with updated DEA guidelines. |
2/20/2025 | Ch. 492 of 2024 | Lowers the age requirement for hospitals to offer inpatients the influenza vaccine from 65 years old to 50 years old. |
